Tools and Equipment

Test Bed

Consists of: -

• Board
• Power supply
• Slots
• Insulated base
• Use of speaker

Light

• Very important to have good overhead lighting. Preferably with and adjustable arm
• Small torch for on the job work in difficult to see places

Multimeter /Ohmmeter

• Resistance – demonstrate use of short circuit – open circuit – partial short circuit
• Voltage – 240 volt AC range and DC ranges for inside computer voltages
• Two types of meters, digital and analogue.

Screw Drivers and other Tools

• Magnetic tip screwdriver – useful to place screws in awkward places – demonstrate different ways to magnetise screwdriver tips. Explain other methods of holding screws i.e. blue tack and special expanding tip screwdrivers.
• Types of screwdrivers – Phillips head and flathead – two sizes needed, large and small
• Wire snips for cutting cable ties
• Tweezers – long point pliers
• Black tape
• Can of compressed air
• Soft lint free cloth for cleaning

Spare Parts

• Screws – bag of them
• Expansion slot inserts
• Drive bay face slots
• Mounting kits for 3.5 to 5.25 mounts.
• Cables – IDE, floppy, CDROM
• Keyboard, mouse, 3.5 floppy drive
